Foreign workers usually are required to work 1-2 years full-time in Canada in the same occupation before they can apply for Canadian permanent residence. They also usually have strong training, education and work experience, as well as the motivation to do well in their new job in Canada. The Canadian government reviews every application to ensure that the worker is qualified for the job and has the necessary language skills, training and experience. There are also medical and criminal background checks to ensure the safety of Canadians.
